Google Updated EOL Dates For Nexus Devices


After a certain period, Google can no longer guarantee that a device will get version updates or security patches. Google formalized the update guarantee for Nexus devices last year in the wake of the Stage Fright vulnerability, but now it's gone a step further by listing the approximate end-of-life (EOL) dates on its support site. Google added this data at some point in the last few weeks, but it has only now been noticed.


We already knew the approximate length of support for Nexus devices. Security updates are provided for three years from release or 18 months from when it leaves the Google Store, whichever is longer. The updates that everyone cares about are the move to a new version of Android, and those are available for at least two years from release date. Having the actual dates on Google's support page is helpful, though. Here's what's Google Support listed:
